I lived in El Paso back during the summer of 1993, and to me, I didn’t consider it a really bad town to reside in. Yet in fact, it really was. I was just desensitized from the local news reporting on how bad crime was. This was due to previously living in Houston, which was unbelievable in ‘91 and ‘92. Each and every time I drove across the Border into Juarez, I had a Latino friend or friends tag along with me in my ‘82 Mercury Lynx. Always. I don’t recall any cartel violence going on in ‘93, but then I didn’t bang on the streets . I didn’t bring reefer back from Mexico. It was my Latino friends who insisted they go with me on those trips to bars. And weed. 😁
